According to a source from the city's Department of Buildings, they are currently investigating the cause of the incident that lead to the elevator plummeting down and crushing the mechanic who works for Champion Elevator Corp.
Firefighters, ambulances, and officials arrived at the scene shortly after 9:30am, and found the 25-year-old man stuck under the elevator. EMS rushed him to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. "Medical Examiners have yet to determine the official cause of death, as the investigation is ongoing," NYPD stated.
